How to find and delete blurry photos on iPhone

Updated · For iOS 18 to iOS 27

Short answer

The Photos app can't find blurry photos for you. It has no blur filter or album. You can scroll by date and delete them one by one, or use an app that checks focus on your iPhone and lists the likely blurry shots for you to review.

The manual way

  1. Open Photos and scroll your library at the largest grid size, so blur is visible in the thumbnails.
  2. Tap Select, then drag across a row to select many photos at once.
  3. Tap the Delete button and confirm.
  4. Empty Recently Deleted when you're done, or the space won't come back for 30 days.

Blurry shots cluster around moments: concerts, kids, pets, anything in low light. Start with those dates.

Why it's hard to automate well

Not all blur is a mistake. Portrait mode blurs the background on purpose, and a slow shutter at night can look soft and still be the photo you want. A detector that only measures sharpness will flag some of your favorite shots. That's why nothing flagged as blurry should be deleted without you looking at it.

Doing it with SlashPhotos

SlashPhotos checks every photo for focus on your iPhone, in two passes, so soft-focus portraits aren't flagged by mistake. The results are grouped under Blurry photos, and none of them are pre-selected: you check each one, because some blur is deliberate. Nothing is uploaded to do this.

Questions

Does iPhone have a blurry photos album?

No. Photos has albums for duplicates, screenshots and other media types, but nothing for blurry or out-of-focus photos.

Can I fix a blurry photo instead of deleting it?

Slight softness can be helped a little with Edit › Adjust › Sharpness or Definition in Photos. Real motion blur or a missed focus usually can't be fixed.
